In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Puth recalled, "Information technology just seemed to occur from out of nowhere. And basically 10 minutes subsequently Justin and I wrote information technology, nosotros sent it off, and I idea we'd never hear about information technology over again."[9] Puth and DJ Frank Due east'south output from the session was well received by Furious 7 filmmakers, Universal Pictures, and Atlantic. The song then went through an extensive note-giving and product procedure.[9] Puth opined that his vocal was chosen by Atlantic because of his emotional zipper to the subject field matter.[six] Puth revealed on The Talk that Universal originally wanted to go a more than established singer to sing his part. He too revealed in one of his interviews that the song's hook was originally written for Sam Smith.[10]
